Micronized progesterone is used in hormonal replacement therapy with other female hormone i.e. oestrogen to reduce the menopause symptoms such as hot flashes
This medication is used to reduce infertility in women here, progesterone maintains the lining of womb to receive the fertilized ovum. this hormone is needed to maintain pregnancy.

Indications:

⇒ Reduces infertility in women
⇒ Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
⇒ Secondary amenorrhoea
⇒ Endometriosis
⇒ Prevent endometrium hyperplasia

Mechanism of Action:

It acts by stimulating the growth of uterus and stabilize the lysosomal membrane or inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, inhibits the contraction of myometrium, increases vascularity of the endometrium.

Side Effects:

⇒ Bloating
⇒ Abdominal cramps
⇒ Pain in stomach
⇒ Constipation
⇒ Diarrhoea
⇒ Drowsiness
⇒ Loss interest in sex
⇒ Vaginal discharge

Precautions:

⇒ Antifungals- Itraconazole
